Just one hour ago news broke on the Star Magazine’s website that Al Gore and Larry David’s ex-wife, Laurie David, have been having an affair for the past two years.  I found out via Twitter from the editor of City Pages, Kevin Hoffman.

The Star is reporting that Al & Laurie went from friends to lovers and the affair could not be avoided. Um … ok … so why were Al Gore and Laurie David such bosom buddies in the first place?  Laurie David is an outspoken Hollywood environmentalist and a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council who makes frequent appearances at political events.  She co-produced the Academy Award winning documentary about Gore and his campaign against global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Apparently, according to the National Enquirer, Tipper always believed that Al was cheating but could never prove it.

“I think she’s always believed there was something going on between Al and many of the women in his life,” the unnamed insider is quoted as saying.

Al, 62, and Tipper, 61, were high school sweethearts.

Their split, announced two weeks ago, shocked many Gore associates who had always thought the marriage one of the most solid in politics.

In a simple Tweet sent out on the evening of June 9, 2010, myTalk107.1 host Jason Matheson declared that he wanted Bethenny Frankel from “Real Housewives New York City” and “Bethenny Getting Married” to call into his radio show (Jason & Alexis, 1-3pm M-F on myTalk 107.1 FM).  The thing is, when Jason puts something like this out into the “Twit-i-shpere” things start to happen.  To get everything out in the open, yes, Jason is a friend of mine.  I have also from time to time been a contributor on his radio show.  I am currently a contributor on The Weekend Buzz with Jason Matheson, that airs on Fox 9 (Jason is also a TV host on Fox 9).

The first time Jason had the goal of getting someone to call into his radio show it was 2009 and the person he wanted to call in was none other than Katie Couric.  The declaration spawned a very popular Facebook group named, “Katie Couric please call Jason Matheson and give him a CBS hat & mug“.  Soon we were Tweeting Katie regularly, telling her to call into the show plus doing other kinds of stunts to make it happen.  Before long word got back to Jason and his radio show that Katie’s people had seen the Facebook group and thought it was hilarious.  Katie did call into the show and has done it a few times since.  Katie has even “DM’ed” me at times to check what time to call the show.

As you have seen from Jason’s Tweet at the start of this post, the goal for this year is for the lovely and talented Bethenny Frankel to call in. Why?  Because we love her.  Most importantly Jason loves her!  A Facebook group already been started. Please join it and support our movement.

But don’t just stop at joining the Facebook page! There are other ways you can help our cause.  Follow Bethenny on Twitter and let her know how you feel about Jason Matheson and her calling into her show.  We can’t launch a successful social media campaign without your help.  It’s also fun because Bethenny is an active Twitter user with great Tweets such as this:

I have been on Facebook for a really long time. I believe I joined in 2005 when I received an invitation from one of my British cousins. I say “believe” because it was such a long time ago I don’t really remember and Facebook doesn’t tell you when you became a member. I do know that when I joined Facebook it was so simple that all you could do at the time was poke people, write on friend’s walls, and post pictures. My parents are from England and all of my cousins live there. I have many cousins who are 10 years younger than me and at that time were all in their early-to-mid twenties. We were mainly using the site to post pictures of each other and keep in touch. I have to say the site worked really well for that and still does. I don’t think I would know as much about my cousins and kept in close as touch with them over the years if not for Facebook.

As the site has evolved I have evolved with it. I am naturally an early adopter and was one of the first people to use Facebook messages, groups, pages, chat, and so on. I like the site as a whole and like the network of people it has brought me. Some of the changes to the site I can do without but some of the changes have been brilliant and brought users to the site who I thought would never “get on Facebook”.

About a month ago I started hearing from the so called “tech people” that Facebook is changing it’s privacy policy and isn’t private enough. This is leading many people to re-think the information that they are putting out on the social network and possibly even quit Facebook all together. To this I have to say, are you people idiots?

First of all, what kind of “tech people” are you “tech people” anyway? You are just figuring out now that Facebook have privacy issues? Really? Because as far as I am concerned that site was always a big mess of non-private, virus laden, get ready to meet someone who has a fake profile, piece of work. Now we are supposed to worry about this? I thought we were a group of people who Twittered all day long every single thing we were doing, Foursquared the exact location we were doing it at, and synced all that information to our Facebook status so we could have less privacy. I mean, if someone could create a social network that would put up what we were doing on an electronic billboard in Downtown Minneapolis I am pretty sure we would all sign up for that pretty damn quick.

I come from a family of tech people. When I say tech people I mean really techie people. I have one brother who designs digital signal processing chips. He mainly works on quick drive technology these days. For you tech people who aren’t techie enough to understand this it means he makes your computer go faster. I have another brother who is a high level computer programmer. He works on call-in TV shows internationally, on a large scale, (think American Idol) making their call in lines work. Guess what my techie brothers don’t do? They don’t go on Facebook. Or on Twitter. Or on anything else. They are actually friends with one of the original Twitter guys (The former COO of Twiter). When he comes to Minneapolis he hangs out with my brothers and talks technology. He doesn’t go on Facebook either. Do you want to know why? They don’t think it is safe.  They have never thought it was safe and they never will.

Do you want to know what my brother does do? He makes his own computers. He orders all the components, puts the computer together, and runs a server out of his basement. He runs everything on Linux and share-ware. He calls his setup “The Deathstar”. He hosts his own website out of the Kingdom of Tonga (I am totally serious about this) called carter.to, and he hosts his own music site called carter.to/discs. He does all of this stuff because he doesn’t think any of the other stuff most people are using everyday is safe and wants to be totally private. He also thinks I am crazy for  participating in all the social media sites that I participate in. He is constantly sending me links and articles about the latest Twitter virus or Facebook virus and just generally making fun of me about it.

I think he is crazy. So no, I am not quitting Facebook, you Facebook quitting idiots. This is how I see it, you are either going to ride a motorcycle without a helmet or you are going to buy a Volvo. Just the same, you are either going to Facebook/Twitter/Foursquare/Linkedin or you are going to build “The Deathstar” in your basement and host a website out of the Kingdom of Tonga. If you look you can see, that’s me, riding down the highway, on a motorcycle without a helmet.

Picture of Conan O'Brien & Me

I had the pleasure of being at an event that Conan O’Brien was hosting last night and getting my picture taken with him (in case you are wondering, his is very nice, he acts exactly like you would expect him to from watching him on TV).  I posted the photo on Facebook and Twitter, like I am known to do with various picture of myself from various different events.  Today one of my friends made a funny “mock” photo of himself with Conan using my photo as the base and putting his head over my head.

When the picture of Conan O’Brien and me hit the internet I was of course immediately hit with the customary type of compliments you would expect, such as, “Jealous!” and, “Cool!”  The picture was even featured on today’s LOL/OMG blog, all great things.

The thing is, when Karl posts his picture of Conan, me & his head on the internet, people start to compliment him on his rack.  I start to wonder, why didn’t I get any compliments on my rack?  I mean, it’s the same rack?  And really Karl isn’t getting complimented on his rack, he is actually getting complimented on my rack.  So on behalf of all you peeps who complimented Karl today on “his” rack, thank you.

In the end during a heated Facebook discussion we were able to figure it out.  As it turns out, cleavage stands out more on a man than on a woman.  Also, telling a man he has a nice rack isn’t sexual harassment but telling a woman she has one is, even if the rack being complimented on the man is a woman’s. Most importantly, it turns out that I am prettier than Karl.  When people look at a picture of me they have more to look at than just my rack, such as my face.  When people look at a picture of Karl and my rack is involved it turns out that my rack steels the show.  Sorry about that Karl, sometimes the world is just a cold, hard place.

Introduction

I have had problems with my back on and on for 10 years. Last Friday I reached the pinnacle of my back troubles and went under the knife.  I was in the hospital for a few day and then they let me out.  I walked out of that hospital with nothing but the clothes on my back, my iPad, and a bag full of prescription medications.  What happened next was a bunch of messy drug fueled nonsense filled Tweets. Here is the story of my back surgery with some of my Twitter exchanges thrown in so you can get a sense of what my state of mind was like while the events were happening.

Why send me one misspelled sentence that looks like it came from a middle school kid “wat do u love about it?” and then get furious at me for not solving her life problems? Some Tweeps be crazy! I’m telling ya!

The Pain Goes On

Let’s call the times when my back acts up “episodes”.  About once every two years I would have an “episode” with my lower back, always on the right side. I would move a certain way and then put my back out. It would be sore for a couple weeks and then it get better. In recent years the episodes with my back have become more frequent, the pain has become more severe and the episodes last longer.

Editors Note: I do currently have pink tennis balls on my walker.  I seriously want to pimp it out.  Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

My Foot Quits Working

It was about a month ago when I went to try and remove my four year old from under his bed that I hurt my back again and triggered the latest “episode”. This episode was worse than any of my previous episodes in multiple ways. I was in extreme pain (according to the hospital pain chart I was in crying face pain, a 9 or 10). A few days after the episode started the pain began to radiate down my right hip and leg. Soon my right foot was numb and was developing weakness. Next thing I knew I couldn’t move my right foot and was walking with a limp because I had to drag my right foot (I found out later this is called “foot drop”).

Editors note: is @aagon talking about Power Point when referring to “collective expressionism & “sharing thoughts”? Because if he is I want no part of that.  I will stick with the rainbow and the red drawf please.

Nerve Pain & My Spinal Cord

During the next few weeks I visited a series different doctors and was getting x-rays and MRIs in order to find out what was wrong with me. It turns out I have a degenerative disc disease which causes the discs between by vertebrae to wear down, leave bone sitting on top of bone in my spine. I finally went to see a doctor at the Spine Center last Tuesday who could take a look at all my films and give me a path to recovery. He was able to show me on my MRI that I had a disc that was bulging and pressing into my spinal cord. This is why I was is constant pain (and let me tell you, the pain was bad people, this was nerve pain).  This was also what was causing the numbness and weakness in my leg and foot. I would need to have surgery as soon as possible. Without surgery I would never walk normally again and the numbness and weakness would only spread. Surgery was scheduled for Friday and I was going to have a discectomy and a lamectomy.

Editors note: @threevolts likes to use a hashtag (#) to call attention to thing others write on Twitter that meant to be unoffensive everyday comments that he thinks can be viewed as “dirty” or “sexy” or “crude”.  Sometimes he is spot on with the Tweets he picks.  Sometimes he is way off and the joke is lost.  For example: “#isthataeuphemism? RT @GRLitman: Due to the travel conditions caused by volcanic ash, the President’s trip to Poland has been cancelled.” No.  That is not a euphamism.  And even though I think you are extremely funny @threevolts, I don’t think that all of the euphamism tweets are funny.

Going Under the Knife

I went in to have my surgery on Friday morning. The surgery ended up being more extensive than was first planned because once the surgeon opened up me up they were able to see  I had fragments of bone pressing into my spinal cord along with the bulging disc. They also had to remove more bone from my vertebrae than they originally thought. I found out when they woke me up in recovery that not only was I not going home that night, but also I would be in the hospital for a least a few days with a long recovery a head of me.

Editors Note: See @threevolts is one of the coolest people on Twitter because he does his own Twitter stuff and doesn’t really care what people say to or about him.  Don’t get me wrong, he likes to have the odd Twitter fight now and again, but he doesn’t take the fights seriously.  That is why @threevolts is one of my super-awesome Twitter friends.  We can talk smack on Twitter and neither one is angry.  The people reading the tweets on the other hand …

The Road to Recovery

It is hard for me to move around these days.  My nerve pain is gone, but it has been replaced by the incision pain from my surgery.  My right foot is still numb and weak.  They tell me this will take some time to get better.  I am now the owner of my very own walker. You would think this would be depressing but I am choosing to see it as an opportunity for performance art. Look for a future blog post on how I plan to “Pimp My Walker”. I will be at home for at least the next few weeks to one month. I am not going to be able to drive for about a month.

Editors Note: I never knew who this @jalbus guy was before he started Twittering me over my “Twitter fight” with Threevolts.  I think he believed I was some blonde sex crazed idiot who didn’t understand Twitter and needed his help in order to “stop making an ass of my self”.  He told me about his dick for no apparent reason and the offered to give me lessons on what not to do on Twitter.  Um @jalbus … yeah … I don’t think I will be needing those lessons.

The Meds

I am on a lot of pain medication because back surgery is really painful. I can’t tell if this is positively of negatively affecting my Twittering right now. I do know that I have been confused around the house sometimes thinking that people have come to see me who haven’t.  My best explanation is that I am having dreams while I am awake.  In the morning I always have to ask my husband who was here the day before because I am not sure who really was here and who I dreamt was here.  One morning I actually asked him if we had a Santa in our house the night before because I could have sworn I saw one.  I hope you enjoyed my spine story along with some of my favorite crazypants Judy Tweets from the past few days.

editors note: despite what @jalbus says in his Tweet I only brought up getting laid twice on Twitter yesterday.  All other references to getting laid were by men, mainly @jalbus.  I think this is because men are uncomfortable when a woman uses this type of language and then men feel the need to overcompensate.  They also think the woman said “sex” many times instead of a few times because of the impact of a woman saying it.  You can disagree with me, but the male only backlash I experienced on Twitter yesterday after telling a man to get laid was powerful.

People who Twitter in Minneapolis have been Tweeting up a storm about an advertisement for R.F. Moller that is in the current issue of City Pages (pictured above).  The reason for all the talk is obvious, people are offended by the the reference to suicide that the ad portrays. Here are some to the Tweets that have been written about the ad today:

Shortly after posting this story I was contacted by Kevin Hoffman, the editor of City Pages, via Twitter.

After that Tweet Kevin sent me a link to a story on the KSTP TV website about the jewlery ad.  In the article it explains how Mischke wrote the ad because R.F. Moeller sponsors his weekly column in City Pages. This was his apology:

“Certainly I’m sorry to the people who were hurt by it. I’m not in the business of going out to hurt people so anytime I hurt somebody I have to apologize for that.”

The article also went on to say that R.F. Moeller never approved the advertisement before it went public.  Isn’t interesting that this advertisement was able to be printed in the City Pages and only have one person ever work on it or look at it? No one who works at the City Pages ever approved it, and no one who works at City Pages ever sent it to the client for approval before running the ad.  Perhaps this is how an offensive advertisement such as the suicide themed one was able to get printed in the paper?  Maybe if advertisements were being sent for approval by clients and other staff members mistakes like this wouldn’t get made?

Denny Hecker

Earlier today, one of the people I follow put a challenge out over Twitter to journalists.  The challenge involves Denny Hecker and the use of a particular word.  More to the point, the challenge is to write a story about Denny Hecker not using a particular word.  Even though I am not an actual journalist I thought I would take this challenge.  After all, I am a blogger, and I am “newer than the new media”.  I figure Imight as well give this a shot.

Here is how the challenge was given out over Twitter and how I responded:

For those unfamiliar with the name Denny Hecker, he once was a big name in the Twin Cities area related to automotive sales. Back when he was still in business, Denny Hecker was featured in endless commercials in which he seemed to nearly prey on those with bad credit, slow credit or no credit. He sold new cars across the Twin Cities, he sold used cars, he rented cars via Advantage Rental and I think he even, at one time, dabbled in home financing.

Denny Hecker’s reign as the guy who gave credit to those with bad or no credit came to an end in 2009 when he filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy for most of his businesses and Chapter 7 bankruptcy for himself. The bankruptcies were only the start of many more troubles to come for Hecker, who is literally in a world of legal trouble. Hecker has always insisted that the collapse of his business empire was due to the economy and problems with the domestic car industry. But the criminal case against him looks stronger and stronger by the day.  On March 30, Denny Hecker was jailed for failing to provide adequate financial information to the judge during his divorce hearing.

But really, anyone can read about Denny Hecker and his legal problems in the news.  I thought it might be interesting to see what my Tweeps (people I follow on Twitter) have been saying about Hecker.  I searched through the Tweets and here are some of my favorites:

Um … yeah, it’s probably best not to advertise for Denny Hecker with your car anymore.

I read her blog post on this topic.  It’s a weird story about how she helped Denny Hecker with his car so it didn’t get towed while he was in jail.  The strange thing is, she seems really happy that they are like besties now.  If you know anyone in jail who is looking for a friend or needs someone to run errands for them, you know, on the outside, you should totally call Esme.

No. He doesn’t think he is going to go to jail.  That is why he did all that bad stuff. And kept doing it.  Because he thinks he is above the law.  Like all criminals do.  Because that is what he is.  A criminal.

Justin Bieber

I’m just gonna say this right at the start. I have no idea who this Justin Bieber kid is. I have no idea what he does and I certainly have no idea why he is so popular right now. I do know that I am afraid of him, and I think you should be too. Why? Because any kid with this much power and no obvious discernible talent or skill must be evil.  Well, maybe not evil, but at the very least dangerous.

I came to know who Justin Bieber is through two websites.  The first one is Twitter, where Justin Bieber has been a trending topic for about two weeks now.  That my not sound like a big deal to you, but it actually is.  The name “Justin Bieber” is a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, which means that people all over the world are twittering about this kid.  To put it in even more perspective for you, the health care bill that passed through the U.S. House (Sunday) night dethroned Justin Bieber on Twitter’s trending topics.  But that statement isn’t even true anymore, because a short time later Bieber was back at the top of the trending topics. How can it be that a topic like health care, that is seeming to consume our national debate at the moment, can be taken down by a teenager that no one knows?

I decided to look at Bieber’s Twitter account myself and see what all the fuss is about.  The result was disappointing and annoying.  Bieber’s Twitter feed reads like something between a used car salesman and carny folk shouting to you at a fair.  The only reason I could possibly give him a break is that maybe he doesn’t do his own Twitter but pays his out of work uncle with a gambling addiction to do it for him.  Here are some of his Tweets:

Hey Justin Bieber, I don’t want to by MY WORLD 2.0, whatever that is. NOW QUIT YELLING AT ME!!

Since reading Bieber’s Tweets didn’t give me any insight into why he was so popular I decided to go into the Bieber trending topic on Twitter and see what some of his fans had to say.

Many of the fan Tweets were in a foreign language, and to be honest I didn’t learn much from them:

Now we are finally getting somewhere! Hannah Montana was a character made up by Disney, so if Justin Bieber is the new Hannah Montana, this means he is Disney’s latest made up teen character.  It all makes sense now.

Justing Bieber facts are very helpful.  Now we know that Justin Bieber is a made up Disney character who’s talent is counting by two’s and tying his shoes.  I guess pre-teens these days may need help with that kind of stuff.

Good point.  I would guess that if you misspelled Justin Bieber’s name on Twitter the Disney thugs that run his Twitter account would come after you and get all loud like, “DON’T MISSPELL JUSTIN BIEBER’S NAME!! BUY MY WORLD 2.0!! IN STORES NOW!! DO IT!!

Earlier I said that there were two website that made Justin Bieber know to me.  The first was Twitter, the second is a site named “Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber“.  The name of the site pretty much says it all.  The idea is that you can either send in a picture of a lesbian who looks like Justin Bieber or a picture of Justin Bieber looking particularly like a lesbian.  I have to admitt, when I first heard of the site I thought it was in bad taste, but after visiting it, I can’t tell the difference between a lot of the lesbians and Justin Bieber.  They just all look like the same person to me.

I mean honestly, is that a picture of Justin Bieber or is a lesbian? I can’t tell.

All I know, is that we better keep an eye on this Justin Bieber kid / Disney character monster, because if he has the power to take over the worldwide Twitter feed who know what he will do next.

Conan O’Brien joined Twitter a week ago and ever since he has been getting quite a following with over 500,000 people and counting looking at his Tweets.  He has only written seven Tweets since joining but I would say the publicity he is getting per 14o character line is paying off.  And since Leno only has 30,000 followers compared to Conan’s half million, I would say that pay off is even better.

Today Apple launched it’s long awaited tablet.  Fans everywhere, including me, are super excited about this new piece of technology and can’t wait to get our hands on it.  There’s just one thing.  Apple called it the iPad.  And it sounds like a femine hygiene product.  And people have been making fun of it on Twitter all day.  Here are some of my favorite Tweets from my peeps.
