I Don’t Care If It’s Good, The Song Prince Wrote For The Vikings Is Still Totally Awesome

January 22, 2010
By Judy Grundstrom

Most people in the Twin Cities know by now that Prince wrote a song for the Minnesota Vikings.  It aired exclusively on Fox9 News last night a 9:00 pm.  Fox9 anchor Robyne Robinson is good friends with Prince and was able to land the right to air the song on the station.  I should say that I appear on the weekly entertainment show The Weekend Buzz with Jason Matheson on Fox9.  That in no way colors my opinion in thinking that Fox9 is the most awesome station in the Twin Cities.

When Prince showed up at last weeks Vikings game in a skybox Twitter went crazy with buzz about seeing the purple one.  Last night when the Prince song was played on Fox9 Twitter went crazy with people buzzing about how bad the song was.  My question is, are songs about football ever good?  I say no.  Also, isn’t the fact that Prince recorded a song about the Vikings itself totally awesome?  I say yes.

UPDATE:

Fox9 Anchor Robyne Robinson, who I happen to be friends with on Facebook, posted some thoughts to her Facebook status about what people are saying about not liking the Prince song.  I am just going to put her status update up here for you to see, as I think she says it best herself.

Here is Prince’s totally awesome Vikings song.

UPDATE:

Now with lyrics if you want to sing along!

Purple and Gold Lyrics

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that’s what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold
r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that’s y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn
in the name of the purple and gold

Absolutely agree with what you reported. Your reason was by far the simplest to comprehend. I say to you, I often get irked when folks explain things that they plainly have no idea about. You managed to hit the nail right on the head and talked out everything without complication. I hope, other folks can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
