January Only 30 Days Long In Grand Forks, North Dakota

By Judy Grundstrom

For those of you who don’t know, I am mainly from Grand Forks, North Dakota.  I say mainly because my parents are from England, I was born in Canada, we moved to Grand Forks when I was in first grade, and I lived there until I graduated from high school.  So, as you can see, it is mainly where I grew up and so it is mainly where I am from.  I never go back there anymore as I don’t have any relatives who live there.  In fact, I don’t have a single relative who lives in the state of North Dakota.  I do have memories of living there and they are mainly of being cold.  Some things about being from Grand Forks are pretty cool, for instance they have really whack stories like this one come out from time to time.

Every year the City of Grand Forks issues City Calendars that are sent out to all of the residents.  All the important dates people need to know are printed on them, such as what days garbage is being picked up and what day recycling is being picked up and what days school is closed.  You can see why a City Calendar is so desperately needed in a community such as Grand Forks.

People who rely on the new city calendar in Grand Forks will get a jump-start on February. The recently issued City of Grand Forks 2010 Calendar is missing Sunday, Jan. 31.

City spokesman John Bernstrom says the error was noticed as soon as boxes of the calendar, printed by Fine Print of Grand Forks, were opened before Christmas. Bernstrom says if Jan. 31 had been a weekday in which there was garbage or recycling collection, the city would have issued a correction or public statement.

Fine Print President Kevin Kuntz says, “January is the coldest month of the year, and one less day works for me.”

If you live in Grand Forks it turns out you don’t really need January 31st if recycling isn’t being collected that day.

UPDATE:

It turns out the City Government in Grand Forks has issued a solution to the missing day in January via YouTube video.  For anyone with the calendar that needs a fix, please watch here:
