Katie Couric’s “Lady Humps” Get Unfair Treatment In The Media

Posted on the Gawker after someone found an album on her daughter’s Facebook page titled “Four Martini Mimimum”, pictures of Katie Couric dancing have been all over the internet this week. The pictures were taken at an after-party celebrating Couric’s debut as anchor of the “CBS Evening News”. Since they have been out everyone has been talking about the pictures as if someone dancing at a party at night is some kind of scandal. I am calling it the official non-scandal of 2009. Note: Katie Couric, you now have a standing invitation to any Judy related Dance Party.
A Facebook friend of mine posted the picture above with the following text this week,
‘ I am doing some mindless web surfing and the evening news anchor is “backing that thang up” at a party! That’s not something I want my news professional to be engaged in. You wouldn’t see Brian Williams or Stone Phillips doing anything like that! ‘
Really? Stone Phillips and Brian Williams don’t dance at parties? I am pretty sure that both of them do. I am also pretty sure that if pictures of Stone Phillips and Brian Williams were taken dancing at a party they wouldn’t be as shocking to people as the pictures of Katie Couric. Why is that? Because if you think about it all Couric is wearing is a simple black dress with the jacket taken off. The male equivalent of this is a jacket and tie off and shirt unbuttoned a few buttons. If that was to happen and those photos ended up on Facebook I am pretty sure the Gawker wouldn’t care if a tipster sent the pics their way. Women are held to a different and higher standard, and it is not fair. Women are not allowed to let loose at a party – because women are supposed to be invisible.
That being said, I did find some pictures of male news anchors on the internet wearing un-anchor like clothing. You can see for yourself if we like to judge women to a higher standard than men after the jump.

I found this pic of Brian Williams without a jacket or tie on a blog post called, “I survived another Nantucket Film Festival“. The story goes on to tell of how everyone enjoyed above average amounts of party wine and there are lots of pics of drunk party people on the blog also.

Hey Stone Phillips, I know you are playing tennis, but that doesn’t give you the right to pretend you are a member of Limp Bizkit.

Who wears short shorts? … Brokaw wears short shorts.
I know, I know, it’s still more fun to make fun of Katie Couric and her “forbidden dance of gin”. I told you women have it worse.
