Truly Outrageous: Is Jem Making A Comeback?

According to an exclusive report on the website Pujiba, Hasbro is planning a comeback for Jem and the Holograms. Could such a totally awesome rumor possibly be true?

It seems since the massive success of Transformers and G.I. Joe, Hasbro likes being in the movie business.  The reason the movie business is irresistable to the toy company is that no matter how bad a movie is the related toy sales boom.  Even in this economy, Hasbro has been showing profits due to toy sales tied to movies.

Pujiba reports that not only is a Jem and the Holograms movie in development, but the project already has a director attached to it.  Now the Hasbro/Universal partnership is trying to decide if they should launch a Jem television series prior to releasing the movie.

For those of you who don’t know, Jem and the Holograms was a 1980′s cartoon series that was made by the same team that brought the G.I. Joe and Transformers cartoons to life.  Jem and the Holograms were a holographic rock star group who got into a lot of mishaps and zany adventures.  They also rocked wicked punk/new wave fashion.  They were also truly outrageous.

One theme I am noticing around the blogosphere is how much most of the bloggers don’t want either a Jem movie or television series to happen.  As a woman that was a girl in the 1980′s, I clearly remember the Jem and the Holograms cartoon along with the dolls.  I was happy back then to have a cartoon I loved to watch as much as my brothers loved watching Transformers and G.I. Joe.  It seems like a great idea to me to bring back Jem now to a new generation of girls who would like some female heroes.
