God Save The Cream ‘Cause The Sex Pistols Aren’t Going To

A company in the UK called Icecreamists that describes itself as a “subversive ice-cream brand” has launched a new ad campaign with the tagline “God Save The Cream” complete with images of the Sex Pistols famous album cover that pictures the Queen with a backdrop of the Union Jack.
The Sex Pistols are now threatening to sue the Icecreamists over the ad campaign and their lawyers have written to the company demanding that it stop using Sex Pistols related taglines and imagery on T-shirts, in stores, and on the company website. They are also want the website to stop using a sample of a guitar version of the British national anthem.

The Icecreamists sell a product called the Sex Pistol which is an ice-cream cocktail that comes with a shot of absinthe. In an article that appeared in the UK Guardian, founder of the Icecreamists Matt O’Connor had this to say:
‘ We are a bit dumbfounded that a group that made its reputation for being banned is trying to ban one of our ice creams and claim copyright over the (British) national anthem and the Queen. ‘
